Jeffery Prang is running for reelection to his third term as an openly gay member of the West Hollywood City Council.  First elected in 1997, Jeffrey has twice been selected by his fellow committee members to serve as mayor. In the March 8th general election, Jeffery faces five other candidates, including one other current council member also up for re-election.  The top two vote-getters will serve.  Prang is considered a front-runner in the race.

During his eight years in office, Jeffrey has proven himself a capable leader on issues of public safety, affordable housing, disability services, economic improvements and civil rights.  As a member of the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission, he has pursued responsible environmental policy to fight storm water pollution and supports alternative-fuel buses for West Hollywood public transportation.

Jeffrey is a long-time LGBT advocate who has lobbied the state legislature for domestic partnership recognition and plays an active role in California's continuing debate on marriage equality.  He has also been an outspoken opponent of homophobic representations of gays and lesbians in the media, publicly challenging Dr. Laura Schlessinger and CBS News.

Jeffrey has long been active in Democratic organizing.  He served as a DNC Platform Member in 1996 where he co-authored President Clinton's platform on HIV, breast cancer and adoption assistance for LGBT parents.  He has been elected to four terms as a member of the Los Angeles County Central Democratic Committee and was honored as
"Democrat of the Year" in 2000.  He was recently endorsed by Southern California Americans for Democratic Action.

Jeffrey's reelection campaign is in full-swing as he prepares for the March election.  A well-known community leader with strong support and high name recognition, he continues to address the needs to the West Hollywood community on the campaign trail.  In the coming legislative session, California faces a full-fledged debate on marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples.  Jeffrey's presence as a committed, respected, and effective public figure is more critical than ever.
